I know, I know - there's not much here yet. So once you've finished at Power Of Zeus, here are some other excellent sites I recommend you visit some time.

Record shops

Beano's
http://www.beanos.co.uk/index.html

You can't shop online here, but there's a mail order service if you know what you're after. Although Beano's has a reputation for being far too on-the-ball to let many bargains slip through, I've had a few successes at Europe's Largest Secondhand Record Shop. This is also the place to go for pop 45s - they claim to have every UK chart hit in stock on 7", if it was ever pressed on the format. Used and endorsed by Club Beer...!

Jazzman
http://www.jazzmanrecords.co.uk/

A brilliant mix of seriously heavyweight pieces and good old-fashioned tunes, Gerald's Camden stall is only open at weekends but you can browse the website any time. Check out the Stark Reality 7"s for new stuff by the finest in Brit-funk and breaks, as Jazzman is home to the likes of Little Barrie, the Soul Destroyers and Tropics Of Cancer too.

Jump Jump
http://www.jumpjump.com/asp/

What Dan doesn't know about beats and related music can probably be writtenon the back of CD inlay with a marker pen. He updates his site every Friday with new arrivals, many with sound clips, making this site excellent for browsing. As well as all the normal soul, funk and jazz stuff, there's a section on School Band records (a specialty of the house) and the keen prices are supported by fast worldwide shipping. This, of course, won't be necessary if you live in Portland, Oregon.

Seth Spins
http://www.sethspins.com/

In contrast to the almost corporate likes of Beano's or Soul Brother, Seth's site is a personal labour of love. This is a great place to go for bargain beats, with the average price of a 45 around the $4 mark. Seth also sells mix tapes; POZ recommends "Samplistic", which sequences rap classics alongside the tracks they're made from.

Soul Brother
http://www.soulbrother.com/

Putney's record emporium has done a lot of work on its website of late, though you still have to order by phone. A great selection of new and secondhand vinyl and CDs, and the shop's own label has been busy putting together some great releases too - the Marlena Shaw and Eddie Henderson anthologies in particular come highly recommended.

Resolution
http://www.resolutionrecords.co.uk

Mark is constantly getting new stuff in, and while a lot of it is serious collectors' fodder - with prices to match! - the quality is always high, both in terms of the condition of the records and the frequency with which that really rare stuff turns up. All this, and it's in Brixton to boot. Sign up for the monthly email and find a use for all that money you don't have.

Artists

Eddie Bo
http://www.eddiebo.com The master.

Gena Dry
http://www.genadry.com

The lovely Gena's life was changed by Club Beer. We were the (admittedly indirect) reason she gave up work, formed a band and moved to America. But she's back now, so maybe Power OF Zeus will cause her to do something
similarly memorable. Find out more about London's best-kept singer/songwriter secret at her website.

Classic Cafes
http://www.classiccafes.co.uk/

London greasy spoons reviewed by decor. Surreal, but fascinating.

Club Beer
http://www.clubbeer.co.uk/

My other club. The site - almost all the work of my compadre, Ian - is brilliant. My own involvement is limited pretty much to the video vault, but if you want to see Rza, DJ Shadow, OutKast or Tim Westwood waxing lyrical about the club that plays Music That Only Sounds Good When You're Drunk, it's all here in glorious Quicktime.

Martian FM
http://www.martian.fm/

As near as the UK has got to producing something as compulsively hilarious and on-point as The Onion.

Martin Millar.com
http://www.martinmillar.com/

I have more creative friends than anyone has any right to know. Martin is to Brixton what the Ramones were to New York, only in book form. Martin is also the only person I know who likes Led Zeppelin and Jane Austen equally. His website offers some reasons why, as well as an opportunity to purchase many of his excellent novels.

Common sense and incisive wit from America's sanest political commentator/broadcaster.

My Pointless Opinion
http://www.pointlessopinion.f9.co.uk/
